Our Artists

The Red Koala Canvas Company works with exceptional artists, each with their own unique sense of style. The images produced by these artists are exclusive to the Red Koala.

Dolo

I am a proud Texan by birth but although I was born in the lone star state, I didn't stay there long. I moved around a lot as a child. The only thing that remained constant growing up was my art. I was always creating things and taking them with me from state to state. And I still create things; I love building contraptions, painting, riding my unicycle, gardening, teaching and playing with my two dogs. I have made my home in Georgia.

bailey jack

Native Georgian-born and raised in Atlanta. She began painting floor cloths, furniture, pillows, and eventually began working onto canvas and wood.

Watercolorist Coe Steinwart offered a creative composition lesson to bailey. "Coe explained the power of negative spaces within a painting by creating an interesting shape within itself." "It sounds so simple; yet, it clearly can enhance a visual strength to any painting."

bailey’s "style" has been labeled folk art, fine art, cottage art to whimsical or romantic. "one guy asked me if it was 'hippie art'. Labels are great for grocery store products. I’m a self-taught artist. It’s just how I draw along with a dash of super bold color. If I had to label my work, I’d choose 'unpretentious'." She paints with just a hint of humor and adds in touches of vibrant color.

The "hunt for an interesting surface is half the joy" says bailey, as she has painted on the backs of old theater seats, cabinet doors, barn doors, and even a dog house.

Her series of "moon doggies" – dogs trapped in moonlight – are easily recognizable as her trademark; as well as very casual scenes of kitchen tablescapes– chairs, tables with vases of flowers, tablecloths and fruit.

bailey’s first life involved working in the corporate world as a graphic designer, and creative director for IBM’s touch-screen application in the 1996 Olympics. She currently consults as a home re-designer of her business ReFluff Your Stuff.

Lisa Port

Whimsy, magic, and innocence describe the art work created by Lisa Whitworth for The Red Koala. Inspired by our children's gifts of imagination and spontaneity, she loves making whatever images 'pop' into her head, just like the artwork from our favorite child-artists. These images are filled with a corky simplicity which often breeds a pure, child-like wisdom. Lisa helps keep the spirit of childhood alive through her visions.

In addition to the images you see hear at The Red Koala, Lisa has her fingers in many creative pies! Currently living in the beautiful Sawtooth Mountain Range in Sun Valley Idaho (you know, where the 'Governator' broke his femur skiing?), she teaches art classes for children and adults through the Sun Valley Center for the Arts and plays guitar and sings in the band, Fourstoke Bus, with her husband; , Wade Port. She also produces a wide range of commission pieces that vary from Buddhist thangka paintings, mixed-media pieces, and custom paintings and murals to suite the needs of your home or business (anything you dream is possible!). She even knits original baby hats and booties for newborns, if you have a friend expecting a new visitor!
